Symbolism in My Surrealist Artwork

Night Watchmen/Enigma Of The Cosmos

This major scene is an inflection point that determines the potential birth of Mind within the Metaphysical World and of consciousness within the Physical World. It is the manifestation of the entanglement inherent between both worlds. The unfolding nature of Mind in the Metaphysical World fashions the scope of consciousness in the Physical World. The interconnection between Mind and consciousness is the heart of the great entanglement feedback loop that defines the Mobius structure of the universe.

In this surrealist depiction of an art museum, Le Musée d’Art, three night watchmen are alerted to a series of eerie unexplained disturbances. This “glitch in the system” is an awakening of an independent transcendental awareness within the universe. It is the birth of Mind in the Metaphysical World and the awakening of consciousness in the Physical World.

The symbolism in this surrealist work of art is highlighted below.

Le Musée d’Art - Art is the inspirational interpretation on the world that originates from consciousness wrestling with meaning. The choice of an art museum as the setting for the possible birth of Mind and consciousness in the Call Me Ishmael story seemed ideal.

Night Watchmen - The three night watchmen represent stability and the status quo. They walk the art museum making sure everything is as it should be, with nothing amiss. It is their job to keep a watchful eye on all the valuable treasures, note any problems, and fix simple issues. The night watchmen are relied upon to maintain the art museum while it sleeps. The awakening of Mind and consciousness would signal a major disruption in Le Musée d’Art that the watchmen would be ill-equipped to handle.

Chalk Outline - This iconic crime scene symbol represents death. Not a welcomed death; but a violent, unnatural one. It is a prescient symbol signaling that Mind will embody “the glitch in the system” operating outside the natural order. The addition of the chalk outline to the Metaphysical World is a recognition that Mind portends death to the status quo of the universe as it existed before the awakening of consciousness.

Classical Sculpture - This classic “Greek Style” sculpture symbolizes a reverence for the beauty of the established order and the sense of well-being it brings. This single representational work of art embodies the unified and holistic universe in harmony operating on autopilot. The bird poop on the statue left by blackbird above is a harbinger of the coming changes and the tremors that will be felt throughout the Metaphysical World with the arrival of Mind.

Abstract Sculptures - The towering abstract sculptures embody the chaotic and dualistic nature of the independently creative force that is Mind operating inside the unfolding story of the Metaphysical World. The abstract nature of the dual sculptures reflects unpredictable outcomes that can arise from Mind acting as an independent conscious agent within the Flow of the Metaphysical World.

Blackbird - Blackbird is the eternal witness and observer of all the important events in each story of the Metaphysical World inside every cycle of the universe. Its solitary voice on this one occasion signals to all the Metaphysical World whether Mind has awakened and what the nature of Mind’s role will play in the unfolding story in the current Aeon. After this pivotal moment, Blackbird goes mute, never to make a sound again until the next cycle.

Mobius Strip - The falling Mobius strip is the primal symbol for the universe that exists as a unified entanglement of the Metaphysical and Physical Worlds. The ant glyphs etched onto the Mobius strip are reminders that the tiny ants are always the ones that are first to appear on the scene of The Gathering.

Enigma Of The Cosmos Triptych - Enigma Of The Cosmos is an actual triptych I created in 2019 for an international exhibit commemorating the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Telescope. It is the largest work of art I have created to date, measuring roughly five tall by 10 feet wide. It is an abstract representation of the cosmos seen through the lenses of matter, time, and mind. The triptych’s placement inside the art museum is a metaphorical window into the Physical World of the universe. An enigma surrealistically wrapped in a conundrum.

Banana With Duct Tape - This Dada-esque art piece made famous at Art Basel in Miami goes deep into the heart of understanding that the Metaphysical World is metaphorical and not literal. Objects are not things, they are relational events in a grand story. The added writing on the duct tape, “La Trahison Des Images”, is the title (in French) of the famous Rene Magritte artwork, The Treachery Of Images. It is the final reminder that nothing is really what is appears to be, and every thing is more than it seems.

Museum Kiosks - The two kiosks are idle since it is nighttime at Le Musée d’Art. The museum’s hypercube logo is displayed in a ghostly green glow on the screens of both kiosks. The logo is an intersection of mathematics and art, and the museum itself is an intersection of the Physical and Metaphysical Worlds..

QR Codes - The QR codes on the glass block wall of the art museum represent digital data and information beyond the visual cues discernable from within the Metaphysical World. They are the secrets that hide in plain sight. The beacons of a higher-order reality where the entanglement of Physical and Metaphysical occurs. The creative engine that fuels the Flow and gives rise to Time.

the Gathering - (Full symbolism will post week two of the exhibit - stay Tuned)

The Gathering is the transitional scene that ends the story and the cycle of the previous Aeon of the universe and becomes the birth for the next cycle. The setting depicted here is from the previous Aeon that birthed the cycle of the universe in which we now exist. This surrealist work is highly symbolic and metaphorical which is the hallmark of the Metaphysical World.

This surrealist landscape represents the closing act in the current cycle, or Aeon, of the universe. It is the concluding performance in the narrative of the Metaphysical World. The Flow has brought all its creativity to bear into a climactic scene of finality. It portends the road ahead; the denouement of the universe. Who Shall Give Voice To The Mute Blackbird makes reference to how the ending unfolds. The scene concludes when a final soliloquy is spoken or sung on behalf of the Metaphysical World. When the final reverberations of voice are no longer heard, the Flow ceases to exist and all goes dark and dormant until the next Gathering.
